It is never too soon to develop leadership skills. Like all skills, leadership develops over time, so the sooner we get started on the better. Unfortunately it seems that leadership development is not being encourage by many organisations, in fact according to a study by Jack Zenger written up at the Harvard Business Review, found that people start supervising at around the age of 30, but only get their first leadership training at the age of 42!
People need to be exposed to leadership training as soon as possible. Long before people get into supervisory or management roles. Leadership is everyone’s responsibility and as such leadership training should start at least from the first day on the job.
- Are you leaving leadership training too late in your team or organsiation?
